Burn So Bright

Um, so this is an overdue outfit post with something I’ve probably worn before on the blog. *shrug*

Top (“dress”): Dorothy Perkins | Leggings: ASOS | Shoes: Primark | Handbag: Mulberry (with a Hobbs scarf)

I don’t have the hugest wardrobe, and this was a panicked wardrobe pick because despite getting up in plenty of time, I ended up with 20 mins to get ready. I’d like to blame the clocks going back, but in reality, I don’t notice it when my clocks all change automatically!

My best friend Helen is in town for a week to look after her cousin…which she mentioned just a few hours before getting the train down to Bristol! It’s been so nice to be able to spend some time with her though – on Saturday, we went to Giraffe in Cabot Circus, and of course, something was done wrong with the order…I’m starting to suspect that they just hate me in there for some reason ;) After dinner, we headed back to mine where the Singstar came out…of course. Before dinner though, I spent most of the day in Cabot Circus, having an eye test (and while not intending to buy any new glasses, ended up buying a new pair, a pair of sunglasses and going back this week for a contact lens check up!. Oops.) and having lunch with a friend at Coal, which had been on my avoid list (which really, you’d think by now that Giraffe would be on) but made up for prior mistakes with an epic plate of ribs (or #riiiiiibbbbbs as lunch was referred to on Twitter) Definitely going back there!

I spent a little money too while I was mooching about…the book was part of my 6 month late birthday present from Helen (which I prefer to think of as a half birthday present), the grey tube is the new Topshop lipstick that’s supposed to react with your natural lip colour or something, the one next to it is a Revlon lip butter (in Raspberry Pie – so pigmented!), the bottle of perfume is from Zara – only £8! – and finally, the bra was bought while I was waiting for an appointment at the Benefit brow bar in Debenhams – never again! (I asked if they could fit me in, and they said to come back in 20 mins, booking me in. I wandered about, bought things, and went back, only to have to wait half an hour with no apology. I was desperate to get my brows waxed – I’ve been growing them out but I cracked! – so waited and waited, only for the actual service to not be so great: missing hairs and putting on concealer when I didn’t ask for it is rubbish)!

This week is already looking pretty awesome – I’m only in work for 4 days, I hopefully will see my bestie again this week before she goes home, I get to see some gorgeous girls at the Aussie party this weekend and (most importantly!) I get to see my boyfriend on Friday for the first time in 3 weeks. SO EXCITED. And not just because I’ve been told about a present. I’d say it was 10% excitement of present, 90% excitement to see Alex and to not be on my own for a while…I’m going crazy! :(

Edit: So after I wrote this post about my awesome host, I thought I would send them a little something – a big box of chocs which they received today. We often talk about who provides awful customer service (in fact, I did just a few paragraphs ago!) but I think its always a good idea to say when things are awesome!

Bag Lady

If you made me choose any type of accessory to live with forever, giving up the rest, I’d probably say bags.

I know, what happened to my shoe obsession? I love shoes, but a bag will never cause you pain, or make you trip and look stupid, or make you look like you need the toilet. A bag will hold everything you need and will always have just what you’re looking for…well, as long as you packed it.

There were so many beautiful bags on arms at LFW this year, but I’ll limit myself to just two. One, I love the brand, and the other, I love the idea (and the design).

It would be remiss of me to talk about bags this week without mentioning Mulberrys most talked about design. The Del Rey was designed for Lana Del Rey, a singer who seems to polarise a lot of opinions. I didn’t actually realise who she was until a few weeks ago when I heard “Video Games” on Radio 1

I don’t hate the bag like some people do. I don’t really see the connection between the singer and this bag (but then I didn’t really see the connection between Alexa Chung and the Alexa until you saw her eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverywhere with one. Does she still carry one?) and don’t really understand why Mulberry are attaching her name to the bag when all other bags are just random girls names (still waiting for a Hayley or even a Gina bag…) but its a reasonable shape, and I love the petrol blue in the top left (that one definitely would have been my mums choice just for the colour)

I’ll probably be having a look (and a stroke…wait…no, that sounds fine) at the bag when it appears in the outlet store or at my local concessions, but if I were to choose a Mulberry bag in this style, I’d rather go for the Neely or the Harriet.

From a well known brand to a designer who isn’t so high on the publics radar, I think I’ve fallen in love with this bag by Richard Nicoll. It was announced last year that he would be partnering with Vodafone for his 2012 collections, and this was part of the AW12 set.

From the outside, its a pretty but simple looking bag, but open up and inside you’ll find chargers for your phone – the bag itself can hold a charge to replenish your phone (or iPad I guess!). This is the sort of thing I love – and what I think should be included in a technology column written by a female: its technology being used in a non standard way but in a way that could really help so many people – perhaps its just for phones at the moment, but having a portable battery pack like this could be useful in many situations.

(Hey Vodafone, I’m a loyal customer coming up for renewal…if you can hook me up with the above bag, perhaps in silver or purple, then I’ll stay with you a bit longer ;))

Whats In My Bag: January 2012

I realised it had been quite a while since I had done a whats in my bag type post, and when better to do one than when you have a new bag that you want to show off just a little bit? Yes, this is my beeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuutiful new Mulberry bag, bought last weekend after much contemplation. She is a purple Mitzy hobo style bag, with gold hardware. I would have preferred silver or pewter, like my clutch, but I can live with it ;)

Tied to it is a scarf from Hobbs, which I will post about soon. I don’t think you can buy this actually, but the bright splodge of orange looks ace with the purple leather, and orange is the colour of the year apparently!

Inside the bag is too much evidence of trips to Harvey Nichols food hall. I’m a little obsessed with the lemonade by San Pellegrino, and I love these mints by Peppersmith (who get bonus points for their webshop to buy chewing gum called E Buy Gum.) I also bought a new small Bobble bottle*, which is the perfect size for my bag, and stops me from buying bottles of water all the time. (If you don’t know what this is, the black section in the bottle is a water filter, so you can fill it with tap water.)

Theres the usual array of notebooks, diaries, Moo cards and pens and paper, and my iPad is usually in here, but it was on charge at the time. I always have to have a camera in my bag (inside the gold bow case) and the essentials – purse, work badges, umbrella, tea mug, hair brush. Surprisingly, I have a make up bag in here at the moment. Actually putting the make up on in the morning is another thing.

What do you keep in your bag – what can’t you live without?
