Brava, Bravissimo

Bras! Important things. Well, if you’re a girl they are. If you’re a boy…um…bras are still very important, but you’re unlikely to need one as much.

My best friend (you probably know her as the Wife) is an advocate of getting measured and of Bravissimo. I gave in to the measuring demands, but because of the location, I avoided Bravissimo. The nearest store to Bristol is over in Cardiff, and it wasn’t until recently that I made the trek over there (rather stupidly, on Grand Slam day) and went to get measured.

Bravissimo doesn’t do measuring like most shops with a tape measure, but instead look at how something will fit. The store was quite quiet when Sarah and I went in, and they could see me straight away. I went into a cubicle and undid my dress so I was in just my bra (stupidly I wore a dress that day, but at least it was one that buttoned down the front!) and the lady came in and looked over the bra I was wearing. (This sounds really wrong. It wasn’t.)

She asked what sort of bra I preferred (lacy, plain, padded, etc) and came back with some bras for me to try. The one I chose in the end was the Freya Deco bra – she then brought in the matching pants as well which I thought was a nice touch (cynically, I would think this was a way to upsell to me, but I would have bought them anyway)

Compared to my last measuring at House of Fraser, this was the complete opposite – the service was great, and I actually feel like I have the right size now. In the post where I talked about being measured at House of Fraser, I mentioned that I thought that the sizing they measured me at was a bit odd – and now I know it was! I suspect that I was measured to that as it was more likely that there were items in that size in stock. Very annoying.

Another thing that I liked is that Bravissimo have a guarantee on their products that as long as they are handwashed, if anything goes wrong (wires popping through, broken straps, whatever!) then they’ll replace it. They keep all the details on their system as well under your own account, so you don’t have to try and hunt out that receipt. All these little things just add to how great a service they provide (well, in my opinion!)

Now I’m going to have to build up my bra collection…any suggestions for stores that deal with the larger sized bras well?

Disclaimer: Not needed, not even an affiliate link to be found. I was so impressed with the service that I had to talk it up!

Rain Rain Go Away

A lazy day today – so lazy that I’ve done photos of my new PJ’s instead of an outfit photo! I can barely stand at the moment from blisters caused by walking in new shoes.

Unfortunatly I didn’t win the Freya Blog Star competition – but I was sent the above set for being a finalist. Its so comfy. I don’t normally like to wear vest tops for PJ’s, but this has a support band bit inside and padded straps which makes it more comfortable. The bottoms are pretty awesome as well – they’re long enough for me without having to wear them like hipsters.

Alex went to Las Vegas on Monday, which has meant I’ve been trying to see lots of people after work – on Tuesday I went out for dinner, on Wednesday I did karaoke (sober, with someone I’ve only spoken to via Twitter – thats one way to break the ice), on Friday I had milkshakes at Rocotillos (OM NOM) and last night I went to All About Pig after winning a ticket on Twitter.

It was so fun – I’ve never been to anything like it before and had only met one of my dining companions before! Everything was so delicious as well, I was so stuffed by desert time. I was glad to have quite a walk back into town to get the night bus home!

Things I’ve liked this week (despite not having much time to read any blogs, bah!):

I’m overwhelmed from the response to my Race for Life post – I’ve already raised £175 out of my £250 target (perhaps I should adjust it?) If you’d like to donate, please visit my Race for Life page

Right, cup of tea and some toast I think!

Vote For Me!

A few weeks ago, I was bored at my computer (nothing unusual there) and came across a competition on the Freya Facebook page where you could enter to be a blogger for them. Freya make gorgeous lingerie for the more…well endowed… lady, and I first came across them last year when The Wife took me to be measured properly at John Lewis.

I’m sure I’ve told you this story before, the Wife decided that I had to be measured because she has a bit of an obsession with boobs (when yours are a crazy huge size, you become obsessed apparently!) and marched me into the changing rooms where a little old lady (who scarily reminded me of my old maths teacher – seriously uncool when you’re standing in a changing room in an illfitting bra) measured me up and told me I was about 4 cup sizes bigger than I thought. No wonder all my bras were illfitting!

At the time, I’d assumed that all bras over a D cup were – well, like this:

Not in the least bit sexy or pretty. More the sort of thing that my mum would have chosen. Eugh.

However, maths-teacher-bra-fitter went off and brought back some Freya bras which were gorgeous!

The original question on the Freya Blog Star competition was “I fell in love with Freya when…” and you had 40 words or less to write it in. I wrote the following:

I was first measured for a decent bra a few years ago, by a little old lady who came up to my boobs. Realising larger sizes doesn't have to mean boring bras made the increase in size not so scary!

So, very long story short – I was picked to be one of the final four in the Freya Blog Star competition and I need you guys to vote for me! You just need to click on this Facebook link, click my happy smiley face (photo taken by Sarah, of  course) and follow the instructions. I’d really appreciate any help you guys can give me to pimp this out as well :) Voting ends on the 16th, so theres just over 2 weeks to vote

If you vote for me, I’ll be your best friend. I might even make you cake.*
