An Evening With Neals Yard

So a couple of weeks ago, I headed off to an apartment on the river for an evening with Neals Yard. Of course I had heard of the brand before, but this was the first time I had gotten up close and personal with it. Instead of the typical event in store, the event was in a serviced apartment in Finzels Reach, and was a more relaxing environment to learn more about the brand and products.

The hallway was lined with the iconic blue glass bottles and roses, and scattered around the apartment were diffusers puffing out little clouds of lovely smells (a mix of frankincense and rose, apparently). The event was being held during Organic Beauty Week so we heard from a lady from the Soil Association. I have quite sensitive skin, so have used Liz Earle products before, but I didn’t really know organic make up was a thing

Next was the demonstration by Sue Adlam – she gave Sofia a mini facial and passed the products around for the rest of us to try – the ever glamourous She and Hem ladies getting into it here with Charlotte!

As a leaving gift, we were all given a pot of Wild Rose Beauty Balm, in the special 10th anniversary packaging (which has beautiful illustrations by Alice Shields, who happens to also be from Bristol!)

If you’re not quite tempted yet about the Wild Rose Beauty Balm, check out SJ’s post with five difference uses for it!

Review: The LadyBoys of Bangkok

Blogging has allowed me to do things that I would never have though to do myself. It’s pretty awesome. I’ve lived here for nearly 5 years and have seen the tent pop up every year, but have never made it along to the Bristol leg of the Ladyboys of Bangkok UK Tour.

I was invited along with a plus one, so I asked SJ when we went to see Liberty London Girl talking in Bath last week (a seriously interesting talk, which gave me lots of ideas for future posts)

I had no idea what to expect, so I’ll try to explain as best I can without giving too much away – the room is set up with lots of tables (rather than seats in rows which is what I expected) and we were sat pretty much at the front (which wasn’t so great for the boys on our table, hee!) I guess it’s sort of like a cabaret, where you have lots of different songs and musical skits.

Want to see some photos? Well, OK then…

(loved this – she did “Starships” by Nicki Minaj)

(Don’t think this needs explaining!)

(I totally want a sparkly bra and pant set)

(This was based on a certain popular book – I’ve not read it though, so didn’t really get it!)

(I want a sparkly suit as well)

(One of my favourite Girls Aloud songs!)

(The finale – very Victorias Secret!)

I loved loved loved the outfits in the show – seriously sparkly and very glam. While this wasn’t something I have been able to go to before, I really enjoyed myself. My mum had always wanted to go to see this show, so it was quite nice to be able to do something she would have enjoyed as well. It’s definitely more of a girls night out sort of thing to do – the few men in the audience were the ones dragged up on stage a lot!

The Lady Boys of Bangkok will be in Bristol until Saturday 27th, so book your tickets quick!

Race for Life 2013

I know, it’s come around quick, hasn’t it? Yep, it’s that time of year, when I tell you that I’m going to be doing Race for Life again (for the 6th year!) I don’t think I need to tell you why I’m doing this – you all know the story by now (or if you don’t, you can always go through the Race for Life category on this blog and find out more!)

This year, I have chosen to do the 10k – my second one ever. With the exercise I’ve been doing, I feel a little fitter for this one. I mean, I can run for the bus without wanting to die. That’s a definate improvement on my previous races.

It’s in July, so I have a few months to get fitter – I have no idea about times, but if I can do it in about an hour, I’ll be happy. (I did my previous one in about 90 minutes, so room to improve!)

If you’d like to sponsor me, my sponsor page can be found here. (and thank you!) If you’re going to be doing a Race as well, I’d love to hear about it – have you trained much? Have you done it before?
