Last year, I jumped at the chance to order a Universal Standard mystery box, so when I got a targeted ad on IG Stories that they were available again, the only thing that held me up was deciding what sort of box I should choose.

This year, I was feeling a little more confident in choosing a box, but I feel like there was more choice this time than last year so I was stuck between the different types of outfitting boxes. The t&c’s of the mystery boxes restrict you to three boxes, so I went for the classic box, and then the more I thought about it, I ordered the premier box about 15 minutes later.

Last year, I mentioned that the survey to tell US what sort of thing you liked didn’t appear for me, so it was good to see that this time, the survey popped up as soon as the order was confirmed as completed. There weren’t too many questions, and they were in a this or that sort of format – my only niggle with this is that on some of the questions, I would have chosen both options if I could! (e.g. I like to wear both trousers and skirts/dresses)

So, what did I get?

Items Worn
Foundation Tee
Tresa Pants

Items Worn
Wren Shirt
Moro Pants
Items Worn
Raglan Top
Diane Skirt

(I filmed the unboxing on my Instagram, so if you want to see it on video and hear my thoughts on each item, head over to my Instagram and it’s the “US Mystery” highlight)

Both of my orders came in the same box, and there was no note in there to tell me which order was which, but I made some assumptions because of the way they were bundled together. In the tables below, I’ll list the items I think were in each “box” and if the original item isn’t online, I’ll link to the item I’m using to assume the price:

For the premier outfitting box, I assumed that these were the items in that box, which cost me $181.67 after taxes.

ItemLinked ItemPrice
Tresa Wide Leg Tie Pants – NavyTresa Pants *$148
Wren Eco Pocket Shirt – BlackElbe Shirt *$88
Diane Satin Bias Skirt – BlackDiane Skirt *$120
Total$356

I assumed that these were the items in the classic outfitting box, which cost me $107.90 after taxes.

ItemLinked ItemPrice
Boat Neck Raglan Top w/Side Zips – Biking RedLauren Core Sweatshirt *$85
Foundation S/S Crew Neck Tee – WhiteFoundation Tee *$48
Moro Pocket Ponte Pants – PlumMoro Pants * $88
Total$221

The reason why I like these sort of mystery boxes (and things like the ThredUp box, and Stitch Fix) is because they often send something that I wouldn’t normally consider buying myself. The only items that I don’t see myself wearing a lot are the wide legged trousers and the satin skirt, but that’s more because they are quite dressy and I obviously have no reason to get dressed up at the moment!

I feel like I got a good deal with both of the boxes – the contents for each were worth about double what I paid, and I am really happy with the items received – I just wish the mystery boxes were available more than once a year!
