Hey! Since you’re here, I want to be clear about how things work on ceriselle.org. This is my personal lifestyle blog, run from Washington State, and sometimes I use affiliate links or tools that collect a little information. Below is the what/why/how in plain English.
Who I Am
This site lives at https://www.ceriselle.org, and it’s written by me, Hayley Howells.
Comments
If you leave a comment, WordPress collects what you type into the form (like your name, email, and the comment itself), plus your IP address and browser info to help with spam detection.
If you use Gravatar, a hashed version of your email address may be sent to their service to see if you have a profile image. Once your comment is approved, that image shows up next to your comment. Gravatar’s Privacy Policy.
Cookies
This site uses cookies in a few ways:
- If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email, and website in a cookie so you don’t have to re-type them next time.
- WordPress sets temporary cookies when you log in or publish something (if you ever do — most visitors won’t).
- Affiliate links (Amazon, ShopMy, Collective Voice) may place a cookie so they know if you made a purchase after clicking my link. That’s how commissions are tracked.
Embedded Content
Some posts include things from other sites — like Instagram embeds, YouTube videos, or similar. Interacting with those works the same as if you visited those sites directly, and they may collect data or use cookies.
Email Subscriptions & Newsletters
You can sign up for:
- The newsletter (via Beehiiv)
- Blog post updates (via WordPress email subscriptions)
Either way, your email is only used to send what you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
If you contact me directly through the site, I’ll see whatever info you choose to share (usually just your name and email).
Analytics
I use Google Analytics to understand which posts people are reading and how they found the site. It doesn’t give me personal details like your name — just stats. You can read more about Google’s data policies here: Google Privacy Policy.
Who Sees Your Data
- Comments may go through an automated spam detection service
- Affiliate networks may see click data when you use an affiliate link.
How Long Data Sticks Around
- Comments stay on the site (and their metadata) indefinitely so follow-up comments can be approved faster.
- Email subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics data is kept as long as Google stores it.
Your Rights
- You can request a copy of the personal data this site holds about you (for example, your past comments).
- You can also ask for your data to be deleted.
- EU/UK visitors have GDPR rights, including access, correction, or deletion of personal data.
Where Data Goes
- Comments → spam detection service.
- Newsletter sign-ups → Beehiiv.
- Blog post emails → WordPress.
- Analytics → Google.
- Affiliate clicks → Amazon, ShopMy, Collective Voice.
