You know I love a throwback… 2016 was the final y You know I love a throwback…

2016 was the final year we fully lived in the UK, even though we didn’t know it at the time.

We gained a tiny pup (Jess), Alex bought the house we were renting (only to put it on the market nine months later when we moved to Seattle), and I actually posted to Instagram on a regular basis (mostly about the excellent lunches we ate – especially once Swoon opened and Deliveroo arrived in Bristol.)
All this chat about hockey lately reminded me that All this chat about hockey lately reminded me that I still hadn’t posted about the inaugural Seattle Torrent game, and I’ve been meaning to share it!

ICYMI, this time last year, the PWHL held their first-ever takeover tour game in Seattle. The response was so good it helped convince the league to bring an expansion team to the Emerald City (and one to Vancouver too).

Fast forward to November, and the Seattle Torrent played their first home game at Climate Pledge Arena the day after Thanksgiving, to an almost sell-out crowd (although tbh it felt fuller than a lot of Kraken games I’ve been to). My little sister was visiting that week from the UK, partly because this game was happening and partly because she really wanted the gravy boat giveaway from the Kraken game a few days earlier, so Alex and I took her along. Between the company, the occasion, and the energy in the arena, it was such a special night. The whole place was just full of girl joy! Sadly they didn’t get the win (or a goal…everyone was so excited to find out what the goal song would be!) but it was still just the best time.

If you’ve never watched hockey before and want a place to start, the PWHL is a great place to start. Many games are at UK-friendly(ish) times, and every game is streamed for free on their YouTube channel (except for Canada, Czechia, and Slovakia for some reason).

I can’t wait to go to more games this season. Seattle girlies, this is an open invite if you’re looking for someone to go with 💙🏒

We’ve toured Climate Pledge Arena twice now, and i We’ve toured Climate Pledge Arena twice now, and it turns out it's more than a hockey arena!

My sister didn’t visit the US between 1998 and 2022, and when we finally got her out here, we took her straight from an 11-hour flight to a Kraken game and created a hockey-loving monster. She’s been back every six months since, so we’ve done most of the usual touristy things. The CPA tours have been a favourite though, we’ve done both a game day and non-game day tour for a good mix.

Each tour follows a slightly different route. The game day one was shorter because some areas were restricted, but we still saw plenty of rarely seen spaces (did you know Climate Pledge Arena has its own recording studio?) and we went from the depths of the arena right up top to the press bridge (how fun would it be to watch a game up there!)

On the non-game day tour, we were able to sit on the Kraken bench and walk down the corridor the players use. We couldn’t go into the locker room since it was still hockey season, but we did get to peek inside.

The WNBA season wasn’t in session when we visited, so we went in their locker room and also saw where the future NBA locker room will be for when Seattle gets a team again. That tour wrapped up in the owners’ suite, an incredible spot to watch a game (Alex and I saw the Foo Fighters from another suite & it was amazing!)

I really liked how much the guides tied everything back to the sustainability of the property. CPA is the world’s first net-zero carbon arena - they use rainwater from the roof to make the ice, they’ve banned single-use plastics, and even the food is sourced locally. It makes the tours feel like more than just trivia, you can see how a venue this size can be part of the bigger conversation on climate.

This got a bit long, but if you’re a fan of any of our teams that play there (and that includes the PWHL team who will be playing there in their inaugural season coming up!) then its a fun way to spend a few hours

If you had the choice, would you go for the game day tour or the non-game day one?
