So, in case you didn’t know, the governor of Washington state signed a proclamation to close down restaurants, bars and other “entertainment places” which means that a lot of places are now closed – including my gym. Which means that I wanted to find alternatives to working out – and I thought I’d share the ones that were free for at least the next month and I think most of them are available in both the UK and US.
I talked about the Peloton app last month and I was happy to see this week that they’ve expanded their usual trial period to 90 days. We had our bike delivered last week so I’ve been able to use the app to stream workouts to the Apple TV – the bike is in the garage which is a bit cold to work out in. The downside to working out in the den is that I end up with two moving weights that are more interested in trying to sit on me than just staying on their bed.
Tone It Up made their app free for new members for the next month – I’ve tried a few of their workouts and they’re pretty good! (They also have a range of items at Target, and I really like their protein powder)
Fitness Blender has a ton of videos for free on their site – I’ve not used it before, but they are pretty simple looking videos – no backgrounds or anything, just the instructor and a white area.
Planet Fitness are doing live workouts on their Facebook page at 4pm PST (11pm UK time before the clocks change, midnight after that.) which can be replayed later. Their set is set up like a normal living room, which gives you a good idea of what sort of space is needed to work out in
Down Dog has five different apps (Down Dog, Yoga for Beginners, HIIT, Barre, and 7 Minute Workout) that are all currently free until 1st April, but if you’re a student or teacher and sign up with your .edu email address, then it’s free until 1st July.
Sweat Factor has lots of different classes, all free for 30 days. There are classes in there for pregnant people, which I haven’t seen anywhere else, so if that’s important to you right now, that’s worth checking out!
The Body Coach has tons of workout videos on his YouTube account as well as some specifically for kids to do – a good way to get them to burn off all the excess energy!
If you have any others to add to the list, I’d love to hear them!
