Sorry, what? California King Bed? Really? A song about a bed?

But then I remembered about my trip to California last year (sigh, I think I need to go again soon) and the epic bed we had at the hotel in Palo Alto.

Oh that bed. So big (I lay on one side, Alex was on the other, and I couldn’t even kick him. I NEED THIS BED), so comfortable, so amazing. Perhaps RiRi has been staying at a Sheraton hotel lately and knows how awesome the “Sweet Sleeper” bed is. Or maybe she bought her own – yes, I looked it up, yes, the hotel chain sells their specially designed bed and linen and yes, if I had €3275 (THREE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE EUROS WTF), there would be one on order to Bristol already.

OK Rihanna. I totally get where you’re coming from. Now, I just need to convince Alex that we need this bed in our lives.

Alex was supposed to be back from Las Vegas yesterday, but then his boss asked him to go up to Seattle for a few days for meetings. I cancelled my trip, and he extended his to include a few days in San Francisco. Nice for some.

Sadly its not the version that ends with their bums being mopped down with jelly, but the amazing dance moves, ridiculous amounts of flesh combined with leather, studs and fringing and the strange video makes this one of my favourite videos ever. It’s so awful!

If anyone can listen to this song and not think of Morrisons, you are a better person than I am. (Does prove it’s a good advertising campaign though, brand recognition from a song that’s nothing to do with the product)

Never Forget
This had to be in the list. This isn’t the proper video, but rather the first time they sang it live with Robbie for Children in Need. I get tear-y every time I watch it.

What’s your favourite song?

I love cover versions, especially when they’re done in a completely different style to the original. The Bird and the Bee did a cover version of Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop The Music” a few years ago which I love a little bit more than the original actually!

The new Lonely Island album was released this week, and I can’t stop listening to this song. Who knew Michael Bolton was such a PotC fan?

Last night was the Brit Awards. Last night was the first time in a long time I didn’t watch the Brit Awards. I’ve been a big fan of the Brits since Take That were a five piece the first time around, and have watched most shows since the early 90′s.

When I was younger, I’d watch the Brits with my mum, then run to the phone in the breaks (because this was the days before mobile phones and IM and even before we had the Internet at home) to discuss the show with my friends.

As time has gone on, we’ve discussed the show via text, IM and lately, Twitter. I don’t need to tell you that Twitter makes shows more interesting.

One of the reasons I didn’t watch the Brits last night was because they’re just not as fun anymore. Remember when Robbie challenged Liam to a fight?

When Jarvis tried to moon Jacko?

Random stage invasions and politicians trying to be cool?

Perhaps linked to the lack of shenanigans, music this year has been quite dull. I can’t remember the last time I bought an album or even a single thats in the charts. I don’t listen to Radio 1 that much any more. I prefer Absolute Radio 00′s, which plays all the same sort of music I’ve been listening to in the past decade.

(I’m just going pop this video of Take That doing “Back for Good” at the 1995 awards, because – well, I never need a reason to post videos of Take That do I?)

How can you not like someone who will go on TV and instead of promoting their product, they tell you not to buy it?

Its a cute advert, and I dare anyone not to smile at the happy kitty at the end, but then this video by OK Go appeared. OK Go are quite well known for their random videos (who doesn’t love “Here It Goes Again”?) and this is another great one.

A few years later, the GLC became popular, so I went on the website and found the familiar images and recognised the music.

Sadly they disappeared from the radio stations, but recently, a parody of the Alicia Keys song popped up on YouTube talking about Newport. It’s pretty good, but this comeback by the GLC is even better (well, I like it)

Don’t Stop Believing was one of my favourite old rock songs. One of my main memories with the song is driving back from the hospital when Mum was ill with my sister and Dad in the Jeep, I popped a CD I had burnt into the CD player and skipped to this song. My sister and I started singing, and Dad looked puzzled about where we knew the song from.

Sadly, Glee has spoilt it. The Glee kids did a reasonable cover version of it, and thats it, now we must listen to those same four chords playing over and over.

I wish I could take the midnight train going een-eeee-wheeeeeeeere to get away from this bloody song, but its never going to work. So this is my plea. Radio stations, advertisers, TV stations, anyone that has the ability to choose songs for something: STOP PLAYING THIS SONG.

Although I bet the Journey blokes are full of Glee (you see what I did there?) from the royalties.

I always love a bit of Richard Cheese, and have been listening to his new albums lots, but I still love the older ones.

Stone Cold Sober and New York (Radio Edit)by Paloma Faith on Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful? have been on my current playlist since reading an article with her in The Chap.

I can’t believe I’m admiting this one, but
Pack Up by Eliza Doolittle on her self titled album is FAR too catchy not to listen to a lot. Its the chorus I think.

The Fame Monster by Lady Gaga is still one of my favourite albums, with Bad Romance, Speechless and Just Dance appearing on my most played lists.

The Family Jewels by Marina and the Diamonds is a lovely album, and I especially love I Am Not a Robot at the moment

What list of songs I love would be complete without a mention of the wonder that is Bonnie Tyler? I chose the album From The Heart: Greatest Hits purely for the cover, and you already know this, but my favourite song off that album is Total Eclipse Of The Heart. Turn around bright eyes.

The Jump. Oh dear lord, the JUMP

For that third one, I fully blame my friend Jackie. We met via Livejournal in my second year at uni, sharing loves of crap music, dodgy dancing and wine and it just so happened that she was in some of my modules (My degree was so backwards, I did third year modules in second year, and second year modules in fourth year. Is it any wonder no one understands what Business Finance is, when even Aber Uni don’t know?

I was not quite heartbroken when Busted split up, but I was disappointed that there would be no more jump kicks by the band with three guitarists and not much else. Sorry McFly, I do love you, but at the time, you were just that odd little band who did “5 Colours In Her Hair”. We lay the blame for the split with Charlie – that Fightstar band would never amount to much anyway.

However, when Jackie tweeted at me that Busted were possibly going to get back together, I let out a little *squee* of excitement. And of course, that meant watching this brilliant montage from Popworld (Oh SIMON.) Lets face it, everyone loves a montage, and this one features stupid giggles, two eggs and “Sleeping With The Light On” performed on a plastic guitar, tambourine and kazoo.

Since of course this isn’t just one song, I thought I’d pop the video for “What I Go To School For” here. You know you love to sing along.
