I first heard this song at the end of the very last episode of Veronica Mars. She goes to vote in the elections, then walks out and its raining. I love that show, and they always choose good music (I seem to prefer TV shows when they choose music that is similar to my tastes. Strange.)
I love this video, its so very 70′s! I never realised how similar Albert Hammond and his son look (who’s song “Hard To Live In The City” has been posted about before on the blog)

Got on board a west bound 747,
Didn’t think before decidin’ what to do,
Oh that talk of opportunity, TV breaks and movies,
Rang true, sure rang true.

Seems it never rains in southern California,
Seems I’ve often heard that kind of talk before.
It never rains in California,
But girl don’t they warn ya,
It pours man it pours.

Out of work, I’m out of my head, out of self-respect, I’m out of bread.
I’m under-loved, I’m under-fed, I wanna go home.

It never rains in California,
But girl don’t they warn ya,
It pours man it pours.

Will you tell the folks back home I nearly made it.
Had offers but don’t know which one to take.
Please don’t tell them how you found me,
Don’t tell ‘em how ya found me,
Gimme a break, Give me a break.

Seems it never rains in southern California,
Seems I’ve often heard that kind of talk before.
It never rains in California,
But girl don’t they warn ya,
It pours man it pours.

Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won’t tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of the m is dead…

Why do you smile
Like you have told a secret
Now you’re telling lies
Cause you’re the one to keep it
But no one keeps a secret
No one keeps a secret
Why when we do our darkest deeds
Do we tell?
They burn in our brains
Become a living hell
Cause everyone tells
Everyone tells…

Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won’t tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of the m is dead…

Look into my eyes
Now you’re getting sleepy
Are you hypnotized
By secrets that you’re keeping?
I know what you’re keeping
I know what you’re keeping

Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won’t tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of the m is dead…

[spoken]
Alison?
Yes, Katherine.
I have something I want to tell you, but
you have to promise to never tell anyone.
I promise
Do you swear on your life?
I swear on my life

[end spoken]

You swore you’d never tell…
You swore you’d never tell…

You swore you’d never tell…
You swore you’d never tell…

Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won’t tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of the m is dead…
(chorus x 3)

Yes two can keep a secret
If one of us is…. Dead.

I think this version of Dizzee Rascals – Bonkers is my favourite, its been renamed Wurzzi Rascal – Conkers.
Bands, can we have more West Country-fied songs please?

Good girls go bad

I know your type
You’re daddy’s little girl
Just take a bite
(One bite)
Let me shake up your world
‘Cause just one night couldn’t be so wrong
I’m gonna make you lose control

She was so shy
Till I drove her wild

I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go bad
You were hanging in the corner
With your five best friends
You heard that I was trouble
But you couldn’t resist
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad

Yeah, you’re that guy
Good girls go bad
Good girls go bad

Lyrics beneath the jump:

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God when they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one laughs at God when the doctor calls after some routine tests
No one’s laughing at God when it’s gotten real late
And their kid’s not back from the party yet
No one laughs at God when their airplane starts to uncontrollably shake
No one’s laughing at God when they see the one they love
Hand in hand with someone else and they hope they’re mistaken

No one laughs at God when the cops knock on their door
And they say we got some bad news, sir
No one’s laughing at God when there’s a famine, fire or flood

But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ’bout to choke

God can be funny
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious
Ha ha
Ha ha

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God when they’ve lost all they’ve got
And they don’t know what for

No one laughs at God on the day they realize that the last sight they’ll ever see
Is a pair of hateful eyes
No one’s laughing at God when they’re saying their goodbyes

But God can be funny
At a cocktail party when listening to a good God-themed joke
Or when the crazies say He hates us
And they get so red in the head you think they’re ’bout to choke

No one laughs at God in a war
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one laughing at God in a hospital
No one’s laughing at God in a war

No one’s laughing at god when they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God
No one’s laughing at God

It makes you blind, it does you in
It makes you think you’re pretty tough
It makes you prone to crime and sin
It makes you say thing off the cuff
It’s very small and made of glass
And grossly over-advertised
It turns a genius into an ass
And makes a fool think he is wise
It could make you regret your birth
Or turn cartwheels in your best suit
It costs a lot more than it’s worth
And yet there is no substitute
They keep it on a higher shelf
The older and more pure it grows
It has no color in itself
But it can make you see rainbows
You can find it at the Bowery
Or you can find it at Elaine’s
It makes your words more flowery
It makes the sun shine, makes it rain
You just get what they put in
And they never put in enough
Love is like a bottle of gin
But a bottle of gin is not like love

Last Thursday, I headed off to That London as I had won tickets through iTunes to see McFLY at KOKO’s in Camden. I met my friend The Raaaaaaaaachel outside Euston Station and we checked into our hotel which was close by (although we headed off the wrong way at first, almost getting to the venue!)
After having a little wander up Euston Road (erm, I think), we got ready and went to KOKO’s. It was quite exciting actually, I love live music, and I think Rachels excitement was rubbing off on me.
We got to KOKO’s, handed over the tickets and were given iTunes lanyards that had little cards on them with access codes to download a sampler from the iTunes store. The bouncer near the ticket table made us put them on before we entered the main room and paid an extortionate amount for a Fosters and a Malibu and Coke. (Yes, we’re classy ladies)
KOKO’s is quite a small venue, but was big enough for about 300 people (I think). There was a surprising amount of older men there who knew all the words…
As for the actual gig, I thought they were pretty awesome. As mentioned (erm, probably) before, I’ wasn’t a huge fan, but they are so good live. We were in the ground area, and standing near the back of that crowd. We were right next to the sound desk, and there was a dude who was filming it for the Vue cinemas. If you were in the Vue, you were probably seeing my hair bouncing about a lot and me turning to grin like a fool at Rach!
They played a good mix of songs from their new album, Radio:Active and their most popular hits.
iTunes has some photos here, along with the set list. Also, more photos (and videos!) can be found here on Flickr.
I shall leave you with a video of the final song of the night, 5 Colours In Her Hair.

I’ve been away this weekend in Bedford visiting friends for a Eurovision gathering. Eurovision was once an amusing event to watch as noone took it that seriously, and all songs were sung in the countries main language so translations via Teletext subtitles were often entertaining. Oh, and the UK actually had a chance of winning back then.

Now, it seems there are some countries that take it a bit too seriously (last nights entries from France and Spain were definatly exceptions to this!), most of the songs were sung in English (a way to others to understand it more, yes, but its just not as entertaining!) and political voting is something that is accepted by many people (especially Terry Wogan)

Here are some of my favourite entries…

Latvia – PIRATES!

They recieved many cheers from our crowd, mainly cause we love pirates (who doesn’t?). We decided that the only thing that would have beaten them would obviously be a ninja song.

Spain – Chiki Chiki

The dance moves in this song were pretty odd (Robocop anyone?) and there was one dancer who didn’t seem to know what she was doing.

France – Bearded Ladies

I’m not too sure why these ladies were beardy, but they were. Strange.

Anyway, I am back now in Bristol and will be writing much more things that you’re probably not so bothered about!

One of the things I have to have with me at all times is my iPod. I can’t even go to Tesco’s (a five minute walk at most) without putting on a song to suit my mood at the time.
Lately I’ve started listening to the Tom Robinson’s Introducing… podcast as a way of finding some new music, although there is a flaw in this plan – I never remember which ones I wanted to look up when I get home!
I’d love to hear any recommendations that you may have – leave me a comment with your top 5 tunes.
When I find a song that I like on my iPod, I tend to play it over and over, because its normally stuck in my head. The five songs I’ve been doing that with most recently are:

Ashlee Simpson – Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)

Fall Out Boy – Beat It

Ting Tings – Great DJ

The Bravery – Time Wont Let Me Go

Kate Nash – Merry Happy

I realise thats quite a strange list, but damn it, I just can’t get those songs out of my head!
